Description:
One of three patents issued to Marks on this date 864009 864010. This one is for a frog receiver designed to eliminate lateral movement.

(see Patent picture #2) Collectors of "No. 2" size planes eagerly seek out examples that are different from those commonly encountered. This extraordinary offering meets the "difference" test on a number of levels. First, it has the much less common corrugated sole. Second, it was made by the Ohio Tool Company, which was not necessarily a prolific producer of metallic planes. Third, it has a cutting iron from the Townley Hardware Company, an obscure Kansas City dealership. Fourth, the body casting was altered in the factory to Townley's specifications by removing the Ohio "02" designation. Fifth, the frog is fitted with the rare Edward S. Marks patent of August 20, 1907. An extraordinarily rare No. 2 size plane (Courtesy and (C) Martin J. Donnelly, www.mjdtools.com)
