Description: |
| The invention is an abrasive-belt joint that is very slightly thinner than the rest of the belt, so that the joint is less subject to heating and wear. The paper backing has perforations to allow it to be separated, and the backing is stepped in thickness on either side of the perforations so that two layers of adhesive tape—one narrow piece over the joint and another wider piece for further reinforcement—join the ends together while establishing that slightly thinner cross-section.Co-assignee John D. Rowland (1863-1952) was a prominent local businessman who had made his money in banking, real estate and insurance. |
