Description: |
A "chuck-drill" is a drill for use on a lathe, i.e., where the work rotates and the drill bit is fed axially into the work-piece's center of rotation. This invention was manufactured in 1868 by the inventor under the name Q. S. Backus. The following year he established the Backus Vise Co.; it is not yet known whether that firm also manufactured this chuck-drill. |
