Inventor Flint was senior partner in the Rochester, NY, saw-making firm of Joseph Flint & Company, which had a branch operation in Saint Catharines. Two employees of his Rochester operations, Jerome Dietrich and Cosmos Shurly founded the important Galt sawmaking firm of Shurly & Dietrich.
