| This tool falls somewhat between the role of a marking gage and a scratch beader-- it can do either job.
The tool features a split bar that holds a marking point or cutting stock, and a small round fence (the depth of which is controlled by a thumbscrew). The patent drawings and the actual production pieces also show a second hole through the stock, but its purpose is not clear.
Known examples are well-made of rosewood and steel, and are clearly marked with the patent date and inventor name, as well as the city "Stapleton S.I." (Staten Island). |
