Description: |
Patent regarding the configuration of cutting lips of "gouge-lip" auger bits, such as Ransom Cook's patent (8162). Apparently, there was some perception of a tear-out problem with Cook's patent bits which Lamson proposes to redress by depressing the cutting lip near the lead scrw, thus allowing the cutting to commence nearer the periphery. James Swan addressed the same issue with another solution a few years later (115541). |
