Description: |
Paired pawls within a cylindrical body are pressed by springs against ratchet faces (one left-hand and one right-hand). The number of teeth on the ratchet faces is one more or one less than the number of pawls. A sliding key on the outside of the cylinder locks one or the other pair of pawls & ratchet faces together. One end of the tool has a tang; the other end a socket. The result is a reversible ratchet action. Weston received five patents on March 3, 1868 -- this patent and nos. 75089, 75090, 75092, & 75093. |
