Description: |
"...a new and useful Improvement in the Combination Tool known as "The Household Implement," and patented by Thomas Garrick May 9, 1871..." Heaton claims the sliding clasp in this patent. It does not include the "front" nail claw that appears in the earlier patents.
Marketed as Heaton's IMP. (i.e. IMPROVED), and marked with the patent date. The markinds on one well preserved example read "DAVID HEATON / SOLE MANUF'R / PROV. R.I/ // PATENTED June 29, 1869, May 9, 1871, Nov. 12, 1872." The corresponding Canadian patent (no. CA-2905) is titled Heaton's Improved Combination Tool.
See also prior patents (nos. 91,839 and 114,665).
A near duplicate of this tool was marketed in 1911 by the Perfection Tool & Accessory Co. of New York. |
