| Most of the patents prior to 1836 were lost in the Dec. 1836 fire. Only about 2,000 of the almost 10,000 documents were recovered. Little is known about this patent. Only the patent drawing is available. This patent is in the database for reference only.
“An additional doffer, fully covered with cards, is applied to the finishing cylinder; its office is to take from this cylinder all the coarsest wool, leaving the finest to be removed by the ordinary doffer placed under it. The coarse parts of wool, the fibres of which are stiff and bristly, stand out on the cylinder above that which is of a finer and softer quality, and as the cylinder revolves, the coarser parts of the wool which lie uppermost on the cylinder, are received upon the new, additional doffer." The remainder is removed by the lower doffer. The distance of the doffer is to be adjusted by screws.”
