Description: |
| There are two cutter adjustment mechanisms in this patent. The primary one is the cutter clamping and depth control device that is attached to the stock. It has a lever, which, when moved from side-to-side, rotates a pin on an eccentric which in turn provides longitudinal motion to adjust the depth of the cutter. In joystick fashion it can also be adjusted to the far end of its side motion where a slot allows the lever to move somewhat upwards to clamp and unclamp the cutter and chipbreaker, which Glans refers to as a break-iron.
A lateral adjustment mechanism is mounted on the tip of the tote. Using a similar lever as to the previously mentioned one, the lever moves through a slot that traverses the width of the plane. As the lever is moved front-to-back it will also traverse from side-to-side, providing lateral adjustment. |
