Description:
Patent claim mentions setting the spur back from the cutting edge a small distance (a la Jennings pattern bits), but the primary focus is on the configuration of the cutting edge of the floor/cutting lip. The outer portion angles back slightly toward the periphery, while the inner portion sweeps back toward the lead screw in an arc. Parsons likens the resultant cutting action to that of a carver's V-parting tool. Roughly reminiscent of Griswold's patent, 47946, a decade earlier.
