Description: |
The principle feature of the patent is a detachable semi-circular wooden handle for sad irons. The latching mechanism includes a spring catch, and a base plate shaped to insure secure attachment. The body of the corresponding iron has a cavity filled with non-conducting material.
The specifications also note Mrs. Potts' prior sad iron patent no. 103,501 which included a shell containing non-conducting material.
By the early 1880s, Enterprise Mfg. of Philadelphia was advertising "Mrs. Potts Patent" wooden handle sad irons. |
