Description: |
| A 1902 catalog from Advance Thresher Co. shows the Advance straw burner boiler, "known as the Lafever patent and was designed by our superintendent, a practical engine man of long experience." This burner is similar to that in a locomotive. Fuel and draft enter at opposite ends of the fire box, so that the flames are blown against the straw. A plate at the front of the fire box keeps the draft above the grate and heading toward the fuel. This straw burner boiler was available on a 22 HP or 26 HP traction engine. |
