Description:
The specifications list hammer, staple puller, wrench and nail-starter. Tool collectors commonly associate this patent with a hammer head with a flat bearing surface on the adze eye facing the curved claws. The inner face of the curved claws have a series of right angle notches which effectively form a range of open end wrench sizes. One of the claws has a pointed end; but not the extended taper shown in the patent.

A Febr. 10, 1895 HARDWARE announcement of the UTILITY WRENCH HAMMER from MARSHALL-WELLS HARDWARE of Duluth, MN includes an illustration showing the hammer head with this patent date.

These hammers also match a catalog illustration for the FULTON UTLITY HAMMER in early 20th Century Sears Roebuck catalogs.

These heads rarely have any visible markings; but given the way hammers are used any such markings are likely to have been rendered illegible. One hammer with a clear FULTON UTILITY marking is known - the handle is a modern replacement suggesting the head laid unused for decades.

Hebblethwaite revisited the idea in a combination tool patented Nov. 20, 1894 (pat. no. 529,384).
