Description: |
Jerome Dietrich worked with Rochester saw-maker Flint, but apparently had a falling out in 1872 or 1873. Dietrich moved to Canada and co-founded Shurly-Dietrich, a maker of handsaws, chisels, axes, and other edge tools. He brought skilled makers with him from Rochester. It is not yet confirmed whether this handle design was made by either Flint or Shurly-Dietrich.An example of this handle (no blade) was sold at a 2009 Martin Donnelly auction. |
