Stan Schulz Library and Archives Canada - Patent No. 26,155
|
Description: |
The patented features are the sleeves and connecting links. The set screw in the sleeve that slides on the main bar enables the jaws to be set so that the ends are flush for all pipe sizes within the wrench's range.
Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers 1830-1930" connects this patent to a pipe wrench produced by the Ellrich Hardware Mfg. Co. of Plantsville, Conn. in 1888. That wrench has the same parallelogram type linkage between the handle and secondary jaw. This Ellrich parallelogram pipe wrench may also have been based on the Feb. 22, 1876 E.G. Clinch patent (no. 173,845).
The parallel Canadian patent is CA-26,155. Mr. Philips gives his occupation as Steamfitter in the Canadian patent.
Compare this to the LAKE SUPERIOR WRENCH based on patent no. 933,096.
