Description:
Extension is beveled from the bottom out at the ends of the cut away portion of the extension to allow it to fit properly with the beveled ends on the plane and then held in place by several sets of dogs. It is uncertain if the plane needed "modification" in order to create an a sufficient bevel for the device to hold it securely.

F. W. Humphreys advertised it to fit any Stanley or Bailey No. 5 and that it could be attached or detached in 10 seconds. Total length of 23 1/2 inches and weighing 2 3/4 lbs. Unknown if he was the maker or just a hardware dealer.
