Description: |
| Swinging "T" shaped head, with tension spring to return it to "full open" position, and latch means to hold it in gripping position on either side of central handle / gripping jaw.
Structure is similar to Henry Lanius patent 1898 608,876 - also from Galion, OH. Ken Cope's entry for Lanius Machine Co. (Bucyrus, OH) shows features of this patent included in Lanius' pipe wrench.
This patent may have been one of the two T.E. Smythe patents projected for production by the short lived Galion Drop Forge & Specialty Mfg. Co. (Founded in 1898) as one of the assignees was also named as one of the founders of that company. |
