Description: |
The back of the jaw component rides on blocks or rollers set in the handles. The remainder of the pliers is similar to Schatz's previous parallel-jaw pliers patent (no. 557,615, issued April 7, 1896). The specifications explain the sequence of assembling the parts during manufacture. Corresponding British patent GB-189625216 was registered Nov. 10, 1896. See also British patent GB-189614926.
"A. SCHATZ PATENT" around the pivot screw of a parallel jaw cutting pliers announced to the trade in January, 1897 by Bridgeport Mfg. Co. of Bridgeport, CT is evidence this and Schatz's previous patent no. 557,615 were used.
Wm. Schollhorn Company brought suit against Bridgeport Manufacturing Company alleging infringement on patent no. 427,220. Bridgeport's pliers were found to infringe, Bridgeport Mfg. appealed, and lost. (Bridgeport Manufacturing Company et. al. v. William Schollhorn Company - Jan. 2, 1899). |
