The jaw opening is set by a sliding yoke. The jaw faces have sections to grip pipe and nuts. The handle pivots around the central shaft and has a lug to engage notches in an enlarged disk attached to the shaft.
Corresponding Canadian patent no. CA-54,318 was issued December 10, 1896; German "GebrauchsMuster" (D.R.G.M. 73059) registration was effective March 10, 1897.
