Description: |
The patent is for the gripping insert in the movable jaw. Its teeth are arranged in a "v" or diagonal, so that two or more teeth will grip the surface of pipe, which reduces the likelihood of slipping.
The Tower & Lyon "Donohue Patent" combination pipe and nut wrench used a different form of pipe gripping jaw. T&L "ENGINEER'S WRENCH" examples that include markings for this patent date refer to D19,412 - the diagonal teeth on the gripping jaw. For the earlier patents, see 195,589, 238,369, and 268,784 where Donahue appears as Donohue. |
