Description: |
This is the "Acme" pencil sharpener as manufactured and sold by the Eagle Pencil Co. This sharpener uses a rotating disc to shave the pencil in the direction of the wood-grain. The patent specification mentions the sun-and-planet gearing of some earlier previous sharpeners, specifically those in patents 291,597 and 230,338, where the cutting action is transverse to the grain which is claimed to cause tearout and cracked or broken leads. |
