Jeff Joslin Vintage Machinery entry for Greene, Tweed & Co.
|
Description: |
This is the earlier patent for the famous "Blake belt fastening" which was a very successful method of joining the ends of belting for driving machinery, from small sewing machines to wide and thick leather belts capable of transmitting 50 or more horsepower. Three slits were cut near either end of the belt, and brass studs were inserted, each stud bridging across the ends. The studs did not touch the pulleys and were reported to make stronger joins than lacing and were smoother in operation as well. See also patent 31,859; both of these patents were reissued. |
