Vintage Machinery entry for John Waugh
Description:
This portable timber boring machines seems to have never been manufactured. It was intended for use by "ship-wrights, boat-builders, chair makers and the like", and allowed the drilling of holes at any angle from 0 to 90 degrees above or below horizontal. The patent claims are specific to the exact combination of mechanisms, which implies that there was nothing really new or original to be found it its design.

The inventor patented and manufactured a sheet metal shear, patent 28,027, which remained in production by others long after that patent had expired.
