Description: |
The ratchet wrench based on this patent was made of malleable iron castings. It was conceived as a band tightener for the bands or hoops on wood stave silos, water tanks, etc. It was also produced as a ratchet handle for some early socket sets, the ratchet for a hand drill, and a large size was directed at railroads and other "heavy duty" applications.
Observed markings on handles include CHICAGO MFG. & DIST. CO, POKORNEY MFG. CO., DEMUTH STEEL PRODUCTS CO., METAL DEVICES CORP, LOUISVILLE SILO & TANK. Ones marked WEYERHAEUSER accompanied silo kits, and include square nut box openings in the handle. |
