| This is the first and most famous of the scribers produced to mark the linoleum tile that became popular in the 1940s. The tool provides myriad attachments to allow it to mark all kinds of situations encountered in laying floor tiles.
This tool was produced in large numbers as the "Airway Polyphase Scriber", and is commonly found on the oldtools circuit (but rarely identified correctly).
Note that this tool is sometime found marked with a patent date of June 9, 1925. This patent does not apply to the tool itself, but rather to the style of thumbscrew used (Patent 1,541,518 - 6/9/1925). It is thought that these tools are ther earliest versions of the tool, produced before the 1942 patent was granted. |
