Description: |
| Metal-cutting saw using a circular saw where the cutting element may be an abrasive disk. The innovation is a horizontal cutting surface consisting of a pair of platens on which the stock is placed. Clamps hold the stock in place on either side of the cut, partly to prevent any movement of the stock that would pinch the blade or abrasive disk. One of the stock-supporting platens can be tilted slightly to spread the saw-cut to further prevent pinching. A supporting bar runs just below the top of the other platen, adjacent to the path of the saw; the bar can be raised to press against the underside of the stock to support it during the cut, and can be lowered when the cut is complete to allow the stock to be moved or replaced with new stock. |
