Description: |
| This device is used to collapse a split rim in order to change the tire. This type of rim was used on early automobile wheels including on the Ford Model T and Model A. An example has been seen marked "PAT'D APRIL, 1923 / PACIFIC JUNIOR / MADE IN CANADA".The name "Pacific Rim Tool" was copyrighted in 1925 in Canada by the Pacific Rim Tool Co. of Cleveland. The March 1929 issue of Hardware World carried an announcement that the Pacific Rim Tool Co. of Cleveland had sold the rights to the name "Pacific Rim Tool" to Marquette Manufacturing Co. of St. Paul. The Cleveland company then changed its name to Kennedy & Kennedy and would manufacture the "Kennedy C. W. C. Rim Tool and the Elgin 5-Purpose Tire Valve Tool." Marquette Mfg. took over the exclusive manufacture of Pacific Rim tools in the USA. We presume that they contracted out the manufacture of tools for the Canadian market but have been unable to find any information on such an arrangement. No exactly equivalent US patent has been found for this Canadian patent granted to a US inventor. No exactly equivalent US patent has been found for this Canadian patent granted to a US inventor but US patent 1,643,122 is vaguely similar and was assigned to the Pacific Rim Tool Co.We have seen a made-in-USA example of this tool marked with the Pacific Rim Tool Co. name plus "PAT. U.S. CANADA & ENG. OTHERS PENDING". |
