Description: |
| This patent represents the genesis of PVA, poly-vinyl alchohol, which would eventually become the basis of the ubiquitous white and brown glues used for woodworking and other purposes. This patent focuses on how to manufacture chemicals of this type. It seems that the use of PVA as the basis of glue was not widely recognized for a while: although the 1926 patent 1,784,008 stated that "we have found that polymerized vinyl esters are excellent adhesive materials", it was not the early 1950s that PVA glues started to become widely available. See also patent 2,419,880. |
