Description:
This is a simple machinist's scratch gage with an unusual head locking mechanism. The arm is held in place by a spring loaded button. Depressing the button would allow the arm to move, and releasing it would lock it in place.

There are several known examples of this tool, but none of them are marked with the correct patent date. The production pieces use an aluminum head with a steel rod, and are not of particularly high quality workmanship.
