Description:
The components include "nose bow, "nose clamp," and inward-facing shielded "barbs." The structure of the spring-loaded shielded "barbs" was noted as being the subject of a separate patent application.

In use, this design would poke the calf when it attempted nursing. The exaggerated animal drawing was a stylistic convention of the era.
