Description: |
This patent valving for Cornets, trumpets and saxhorns had been patented in England 1878-11-14. The innovation is a mechanism to automatically adjust the tuning when all three valves together. This is a very convenient improvement for the musician as otherwise the third valve slide must be manually adjusted while playing. However, the mechanism was relatively complex and expensive and modern trumpets and cornets do not use this mechanism. Blaikley was an employee of Boosey & Hawkes, who used this patent on their top-of-the-line "compensating" cornets. |
