Description:
Abstract:

In a steam traction engine, locomotive or the like, an air-cooled condenser shown in transverse section in Fig. 4 is employed. It consists of thin plates j clamped together in pairs between rectangular frames k of channel-section, placed side by side and secured by bolts passing through bolt holes in the sides and ends of the frames. The spaces between the two plates of each pair extend from one end of the condenser to the other, and open into the exhaust-steam and condensed water headers at the ends. The air passages k, alternate with the steam passages and open at the ends into headers bolted to the underside of the condenser through perforations in the lower sides of the rectangular frames.

n a steam traction engine or road locomotive, in which the exhaust steam is condensed in an air cooled condenser, and the condensation water used to replenish the feed water of the boiler, and the heated air to promote combustion in the fire box, an air cooled condenser consisting of longitudinal frames bolted together side by side, a pair of thin plate,9 clamped between each adjacent pair of frames, the plates being bent and spaced to form narrow steam passages, alternating with air passages of larger cross section, and inlet and outlet headers communicating with the steam and air passages
