Description:
This is perhaps the earliest patent for a handheld electric drill. The year before C. & E. Fein had reportedly made a stationary drilling machine with integrated motor and then in 1897 designed and built a handheld version, but this patent is earlier that the Fein which is often listed as the earliest handheld electric drill. The Holmes/Siemens handheld electric drill and the Fein handheld electric drill are very similar in appearance.
