Description: |
Abstract:
My invention consists in devices, hereinafter described, for passing steam through a conduit until it reaches a deposit of lubricating material, a portion of which is continually discharged on that part of the machinery requiring lubrication, to effect which I cause a pipe conveying steam to terminate in a hollow tube, open at the top, which is firmly fixed in the inside of a cup or reservoir. At the side, and near the top of the tube, an opening is made. Having placed the lubricating material in the cap or reservoir, a proper quantity of steam is injected, which, passing up the center of the tube, the proper pressure being applied, forces the required quantity of lubricating material to pass from the cup or reservoir through the opening at the side of the tube, downward and inside from which it is led to a desired point. The cup or reservoir, by preference, may be of glass, for reasons hereinafter stated, protected by a metallic covering to prevent breakage; but several openings are made on the sides of the covering, so that the person in charge of the machinery can see the quantity of lubricating material contained therein, and what pressure of steam to introduce in order to control the quantity of steam injected and the flows of lubricating material. A cock or valve is placed on the steam-supply pipe to regulate the injection of steam and to cut off the circulation when required. Another cock is placed at the side of the cup or reservoir to draw off the water of condensed steam.
Claim:
The combination of the cup G, tube HI, and the other devices of the lubricating apparatus, whereby the circulation of steam in one direction through the tube H, and lubricating material in another direction through the same tube. |
