Description: |
Improvement to the design in 723,981, with modifications to the structure holding the bobbin and needle to improve thread flow, and make it easier to replace needles.
Most C.A. MYERS "Awl For All" sewing awls based on these patents included a hollow handle with screw-off cap to hold extra needles, and the small wrench / screwdriver used to tighten the clamp holding the needles. (The earliest ads do not show a screw-off cap.) An optional supplemental marking wheel was added to the tool with 1936 patent no. 2,060,349.
A 1927 brief bio. of Clarence A. Myers noted he'd sold a business interest at Quincy, IL and went to Denver ca. 1904. By 1906 he was in Chicago, setting up the sewing awl business. MYERS AWL FOR ALL sewing awls are still in production in 2025. |
