Description: |
The features include the bobbin "up front" and easy replacement of the needle. Corresponding Canadian patent CA-82,287 granted Aug 4, 1903 names a different co-assignee.
This patent together with 786,000 was the basis for the C.A. Myers "Awl for All" -- which is still in production in 2025.
In 1911, MYERS ads noted patent infringement lawsuits filed against W.S. JUDY and Anchor Mfg. (Dayton, OH) for their sewing awls. JUDY secured patent no. 1,004,656 for a shuttle to be used in conjunction with their sewing awl. Competing ads from the firms appeared within a couple pages of each other in late 1911 POPULAR MECHANICS. |
