Description: |
"My invention relates to bearings. It has for its object to provide an easy-running adjustable bearing especially adapted to support shafts rotated at a high rate of speed." The screw at the end adjusts a ball thrust bearing, and the bearing has provision for lubrication. Corresponding British patent 16288 of 1898 ( [GB-189816288] - July 26, 1898) showing the bearing supporting a "polishing wheel" was "accepted" Jan 28, 1899.
This bearing also appears in Wood's patent no. 641,485.
Woods had several patents matching products listed by the Woods Specialty Co., Granville, NY ca. 1898 - 1902. In later years, he appears in corporations associated with his patents in several places including Toronto, Cleveland, etc. |
