Co-inventor M. C. Mayo is best remembered as obtaining an 1875 patent for a distinctive plow plane that he may have manufactured himself in small quantities. His planes exhibited at the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia where they were commended by the judges as "Good and well finished tools."
