In a forging-machine, the combination of a stationary die adapted to receive the point of the work, two retaining-dies, means to move both of said retaining-dies in opposite directions toward and from the axis of the work, a piercing punch or plunger and means to move said piercing punch or plunger between the retaining-dies toward and from the face of the stationary die, the parts being so arranged that the retaining-dies are moved from the axis of the work while the point of the work is engaged by the stationary die. |  |
