Description: |
Information taken from Clifford D. Fales' database. This patent date does not appear on BOWSER models but may be related. This patent date does appear on spiral/ratchet screwdrivers signed UNIVERSAL TOOL CO., but the design does not follow this patent. See patent 520,519.Marked, "UNIVERSAL TOOL CO. / BATTLE CREEK, MICH. / TRADE MARK (UTCO) / PATD DEC 13, 1892 / PAT APPD FOR"To make things even stranger, this patent was actually used (under license) by George E. Gay but the tools were marked with the patent information for Gay's patent 484,004. To amend that statement, though, in 2016 we received a note from Bill Lawrence, who acquired a screwdriver matching this patent that is stamped, "GAY'S COMBINATION NO. 1 / GEO. E. GAY AUGUSTA MAINE USA / PAT. DEC. 13, 1892". Lawrence speculates that Gay may have been "the actual manufacturer of the Bowser-attributed tools." |
