| See also Canada patent CA-467,123. This invention would lead to the creation of the Rockwell/Delta Uniplane. Rockwell acquired the rights to Ryan's invention and then reportedly spent some years refining the design for volume manufacture. The Uniplane was marketed to schools as a safer alternative to the traditional jointer. It achieved some modest success at first but soon faded from popularity and was discontinued. It remains popular for some niche uses, e.g., by luthiers for planing guitar and violin backs. |
