Description:
Abstract:

A roll grinding machine includes a control circuit having a first selector switch adapted to cause a predetermined degree of grinding selected from a plurality of predetermined degrees of grinding and a second selector switch adapted to cause grinding to a further predetermined degree additional to the said predetermined degree the arrangement being provided so that when workpieces such as a pair of rolls are reconditioned by the machine the first roll can be matched with the second roll which requires to have a predetermined diameter relationship with the first. Thus, in operation and with No 1 roll in position, the first selector switch is set to " No. 1 "; a preset number of rough grinding strokes determined by a first counter are then effected, followed by semi-finish and finish grinding stages. For the second roll, the first switch is moved to " No. 2" position and a rough grinding is effected for a smaller number of strokes, determined by a second counter, than for the first roll. The second roll is then measured to establish how much more material remains to be removed to bring the roll diameter to within the required dimensional tolerance relative the first roll, and the second selector switch is adjusted accordingly; the necessary additional rough grinding strokes, semi-finish strokes and finish strokes are then effected automatically. A suitable switching circuit is described in the Specification with reference to Figs. 1 to 4 (not shown).
