Vintage Machinery entry for Sleeper & Hartley, Inc.
Description:
The assignee made machinery for making wire and objects, e.g., nails, out of wire. We cannot find any evidence that they ever manufactured this planer/shaper. At the time the patent was issued, planers and shapers were still popular but were being made obsolete by milling machines.

According to the specification, "the invention contemplates a machine, which partakes generally of the nature of a shaper in respect of tool movement, but which has a range and capacity equal to that of a planer, where the work instead of the tool is reciprocated."
