Description:
A very, very early patent for a tilting-arbor saw. Only patent 30,672 is known to precede it. Mr. Hughes' design is flawed in that the blade moves laterally as it tilts, which complicates setup and is less safe because a larger table opening is required. This problem is overcome with the trunnion mechanism, patented in 1878 by John Connell, 210,100.
