Description:
A breast drill with an integral chain drill and adjustable angle

The attribution of manufacturer to the inventor is not rock solid. Some examples of this brace-drill are reported to be unmarked, but one example is lightly marked with the patent date and "S. McClellan / New York ????TY, U S A". The 1904-09-25 Hardware magazine says the following. "Stephen McClellan of 1179 Herkimer Street, Brooklyn, N. Y. has sent us one of his envelope size pamphlet catalogues... It explains the Universal Iron and Wood drilling patented high grade tools which were exhibited at the Fair in connection will Millers Falls Co.'s tools. Included in the book are McClellan's Universal breast drills, patented corner bit braces, the new combination 1904 corner brace and corner bit brace, plain, and the Little Giant Joist Tool..." The 1904-11-24 The Iron Age has an article on the McClellan Little Giant Joist Tool, "manufactured by Stephen McClellan, 1179 Herkimer Street, Brooklyn, N. Y. ..."

The January 1915 Automobile Trade Directory lists the Lancaster Machine & Knife Works as the makers of "McClellan" breast drills. A 1910 directory has the same listing.
