Description: |
The inventor was from Turkey. This patent is the USA equivalent of British patent GB-189,523,421 and Swiss patent CH-12,332. (The US patent specification gives the incorrect number for the Swiss patent). In the US patent, the inventor's given names are "Nowman M.". The British patent says "Nowman Micka" and the Swiss patent says "Nowman-Micah". We use the US version on all three patents. This indexer uses a pair of identical crown-wheels, which is to say, gear-wheels with the teeth on one of their faces. One gear is fixed on the shaft and the other opposes it on the same shaft, is able to rotate, and to which is affixed the part to be indexed. Some means is provided for the operator to rotate the second crown-wheel to relative to the fixed wheel and then hold it with their teeth engaged. The idea of this arrangement is that rather than relying on the accuracy of any one tooth, all the teeth simultaneously are used to provide indexing, which is claimed to greatly reduce error. The suggested application for this invention is in cutting watch-gears. |
