Description: |
Fig. 1 shows the tool used as a valve spring compressor. Figs. 2 & 4 show it as a hand vise. In Fig. 4 the extended screw shaft is enclosed in a tube.
The valve spring compressor function (spreading the jaws) operates with the toggle links "forward" of dead center; the hand vise (closing the jaws) functions with the toggle links "behind" dead center. Most of the parts are formed of metal stampings.
In May 1922, E.G. Mfg. Co. of New York was offering a Toggle Valve Lifter matching the design in this patent. E.G. was also distributing the EFEMCO distributor for Model T Ford, which shows a business connection between the two firms.
Hinckley's parallel patent 1,350,804 provides a valve seat reamer and valve grinder for Model T FORD type valves to complete the ensemble. |
