Description: |
In the year this patent was issued, the inventor built a sawmill in Battersea, London, that made veneers. The veneer machine of this patent used a circular horizontal knife to slice veneers from a log held in a moving carriage. His machine worked well on "straight grained and pliant woods" but failed on harder and irregular-grained woods, which were often more decorative. In consequence, Brunel developed a saw-based system that used a segmented circular saw; see patent GB-180,803,116. |
