The spring of the loop provides enough flex for ratchet action. Compare these designs to those in patent no. 1,437,458. In this design, the extra "lip" is to help with holding hexagonal nuts or bolt heads.
These could be made of square or round rod; the "S" form in Fig. 5 could also be made of channel iron. |
